I'm new to the board and toyota, I recently bought a 2003 Tacoma. 3.4L, 5 speed, 4x4. It is not a TRD, but if I get a trd rear axle is it possible to put it in my truck, and how would I go about hooking up the locker?

Also what kind of lockers are available for the front?

Thanks guys,
Ryan

Do a search (search menu, upper right) and you will find lots of great info.

In short, you will need an entire rear axle assembly w/locker and then the locker ECU and wiring/switch or you can just get an ARB air locker and slap it in the axle you have. ARB also makes a front locker but I wouldn't recommend locking a 7.5" diff IFS front end, you will break enough CV's as is if you wheel hard enough. The rear locker will take you anywhere you want to go in a full bodied late-model truck.

Also look on Yotatech.com and pirate4x4.com for more info via search. Many people have asked the same question thousands of times so your answers are out there. :)

You can put a TRD locking 3rd member in a non-TRD axle housing. It invloves a little grinding but it can be done and has been done. There are writeups on pirate4x4.com. All you relly have to do to get an idea of what is involved is to get the TRD 3rd member gasket and put it on your housing. There is a little material to be removed to clear the actual locking solenoid and you have to make a new stud (or run without that one).

No, you can't, not in the Taco 8.4. That writeup is for the earlier 8" diff.

No it's not quite that easy. If you hook the motor up without using the travel limit bit you will burn it out. There is a write up on how to do a simple switch circuit properly in FAQ/Tech.
