Do you really have to use the Toyota type-4 tranny fluid when it calls for it or is that a sales pitch? When I installed my tranny cooler, I went on and put t-4 in it to play it safe but I have asked around and a lot of guys at these trannsmission shops say that its all the same. Just curious.

2004 does need to use Type-4 fluid. Currently there is no after market maker for this fluid. If you don't want to void the warrenty, use the type-4.

My 2002 requires dectron III and when i flushed out my tranny i used redline D4. As long its what the manufacture recommends or higher its fine.
