unbiased 06 Frontier vs 07 Tacoma test

Some of you know i sold my 06 frontier and bought a tacoma. i promised a comparo....here it is

i am not selling ad space to anyone :), so this is TOTALLY unbiased.
the nissan was an 06 se v6 king cab 4x4 the toy an 07 accesscab 4x4

handling: the nissan handles better than the taco, it steers like a car the
nissan feels "planted" in corners, the tacoma feels soft and spongy.

ride: The taco easily wins here, the softer suspension that takes away from
the handling lets it ride like a car compared to the nissan. the tacoma
feels like a comfy couch on the highway.

braking: the nissan has 4 wheel discs, the tacoma has rear drums. the
frontiers brakes feel MUCH stronger and require less pedal pressure to stop.
the tacos really needs to be upgraded to 4 wheel discs.

acceleration: the taco wins here hands down, the taco may give up 30 hp to
the much heavier nissan but its faster. i would say its at least as fast stock as my fronty was with the CAI,Efan, and exhaust, it rips

fit and finish:tie both are very well assembled, the doors hood tailgates etc
on both all have nice gaps and close with a nice thunk.

interior:Taco wins hands down. the interior in the nissan has a very industrial
look and feel, the taco has softer armrests and a much larger console
armrest. the business card holder and the 12v jack in the nissan console
i must admit i miss. the taco has alot more room behind the seat than the fronty too.

comfort: the nissan wins here. the taco's seats are very low, the fronty
seats you higher up and is more comfy to drive

stereo: tie both work and sound good to me

style: i think the best looking mid sized truck is the colorado or canyon.
both the taco and frontier have looks that have to grow on you. i am
not going to call this as beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

milage: the taco is getting better milage than my frontier did.

to sum it up the frontier handles and stops better, the taco is faster and rides nicer.

both are great trucks, i could easily reccomend either. watch for more
as the miles rack up on the taco.

Glad you finally got your 07. The comments are good but have you wheeled both side by side? I never see Frontiers in the numbers that I see Tacos and older Toys on the trails.

I'd rather push my 05 Taco with a bad rear end and a cracked frame before I ever drive any Nissan...

I used to have a Nissan truck before I got the Taco. There was not one thing ever wrong with the Nissan out side of a fuel filter. I traded it in with 150K miles on the clock and it was still running just as strong as the day it drove off the lot. I would have bought another but they just didn't have what I was looking for in their line up then and the styling that year was for shit. It resembled a refrigerator box. Something that seems to have come into vogue lately so maybe they were just ahead of their time back then.

I don't wheel my trucks...i use them for work, i need a 4x4 as we get
rather extreme weather here (currently 30 below zero and snowing).
You don't see as many frontiers because toyota sells more trucks
than nissan and there is WAY more aftermarket support as a result.

don't knock the frontiers without owning one, they are great trucks.

i have had 4 toyotas and 6 nissans and when i was younger i wheeled them all. both brands are very capable off road.

Let me guess...one of the old Nissan boxed shaped hard body pickup? Those things lasted forever. What did those have under the hood?

The one thing I will give to the frontier is that many were available in a 4 door/5 speed combo which toyota never delivered on with the tacoma.

Not to offend anyone, but I think the frontier is the ugliest truck on the road. It was the chevy avalanche before.
I disagree. I think dodge's/Mitsubishi Raider are the ugliest trucks on the road. The frontier actually has a pretty mean stance/look.

I think that Hunk of Shit Honda Ridgeline is one of the worst looking Vehicles period, doesnt really qualify as a Truck though.
