What is the general opinion of upgrading just the speakers and what is the output of a stock HU on a '04 ExCab?

I really do not want to put in an upgraded HU, I dont need a lot more power. I want a better and a little louder sound. If I put in a couple 6X8 pioneer speakers in the doors - do you think that will make that happen? I am looking at these Pioneer TS-A6870R 6X8 3 ways, 2-50 RMS.

not sure about these new trucks. But I would say replace the speakers first atleast. I know when I replaced my speakers on my old 4runner, It sounded soo much nicer and I was able to crank it up louder without distortion. The head unit would improve also, but not unless you have newer speakers. Let me know what you do, I have the same truck as you now and am wondering the same thing.

if you use a Navone LOC, then you can keep your stock headunit and it would sound great.

I've read that lots of SQ competition vehicles use his LOCs. I plan on trying one out as well.
