What is needed to take a 01 PreRunner 2wd and make it 4wd?
Ed pretty much said it all. Here is a rough idea of what I got and how much I spent:
4WD Tranny - $600 used at a junk yard
T-Case - $250 from a fellow TTORA member, Ralph
Front Diff and CV axles (also got a few other various parts) Came with 4.88 gears and a Lockrite locker

- $650 from Shannon when he did his SAS
Spindles/Hubs (and a spare set of CVs) - $200 from A fellow TTORA member, Bear
Center Console piece - Free, from Ralph
Front Drive Shaft - $90 from a fellow TTORA member on the board, can't remember who. Ralph switched it out for a brand new one
Rear Drive Shaft cut down - $125 at a place in San Antonio TX
Oil Dipstick and upper Tube - $50 (??) something like that, got from a dealer
Other thing you will need, is the tranny mount for the 4WD tranny. It is different from the Pre-Runner...
Think that is about it. It was all bolt up. Had to cut a hole for the shifter and that was about it. I have a write up. E-mail me and I will send it to you:

Was it worth it ?? Hell yea

Best money I have spent on the Taco so far. Now I just want to SAS it !! Some may say, why not do that the first time ?? Well this was faster and cheaper, ie: get's me where I want sooner, and half the stuff I had to do/buy I would need to do for an SAS anyways. So now all I need is an axle (think I found one, a Ford 9) and steering setup along with coils/springs. Will cost a lot less to do this time since I have some of the parts I needed (ie: Tranny, T-case, etc). Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions...
