5speed sux for remote starts.
i would go to a stereo shop that does alarms and talk to the experts.

If you are familiar with car wiring then keyless entry is a piece of cake. Remote start isn't too bad on an auto, but I see you have a 5 speed. I would not want remote start on a manual trans vehicle. You will have to bypass the clutch-start interlock.avc8130 said:I have a 2001 TRD with a 5pd that currently has some crappy aftermarket alarm in it. I would like to rip that out and replace it with a decent Remote start and keyless entry kit. I dont really care about alarm capabilities, I really just want remote start and keyless. Does anyone have any suggestions on which system? Also, is it fairly simple to uninstall the old system and install the new one?
Thanks,

did u have the toyota factory security system when u did this upgrade? im wondering, if plugged and programmed correctly it will override the factory system?!flatlandtacoma said:I installed this one on my truck mainly for the keyless entry but the remote start is really slick:

It was fairly easy to install and works fine.

No I didn't have a security system from Toyota on my 99. Just electric locks with no keyless entry even.jrizman said:did u have the toyota factory security system when u did this upgrade? im wondering, if plugged and programmed correctly it will override the factory system?!
thanks!
Okay, be careful. I don't wanna hear how your truck ended up in your living room or running over some kid.avc8130 said:I realize some people have issues with remote start on the 5spd vehicles...I am the only one that drives my truck, so I know it will be in neutral each and every time I park it.
and when u plugged it in it took over and contolled the electric locks, or did u have some drama to deal with?flatlandtacoma said:No I didn't have a security system from Toyota on my 99. Just electric locks with no keyless entry even.
No drama to deal with. Locks still work with the armrest buttons, keys, and now with the remote. I did wire it up the optional way to have it be one push on the remote unlock the driver's door and two pushes for all (both) doors, which required me to wire in an additional relay (not included.) I read the installation manual a few times before starting, and also poked around on the12volt.com for helpful tips and vehicle specific wire colors.jrizman said:and when u plugged it in it took over and contolled the electric locks, or did u have some drama to deal with?
thanks for your help, ive been having this kick ass idea about some crazy shit i might do and think that the remote starter would be a nice addition!
dont worry, ill post up what i end up doing if this project gets off the ground! :xcrazy:
It was super easy on my auto trans truck. I don't know how much more complicated the manual trans version would be - says it's "safe" so maybe it has a way to know the truck is in gear? It would have to bypass the clutch interlock... You might have to do some poking around with a multimeter since the12volt.com doesn't have any info on those wire colors or locations.avc8130 said:Yeah, I dont want my truck in my living room. Although, if I could keep my truck in my living room, I wouldnt really need the remote start now would I?![]()
Basically my final questions are as follows:
Is there anything wrong with buying the super cheap 64$ system from ebay if I only want keyless and remote start?
and
How hard will it be to remove the old system and install the new?
and
Does anyone have any wiring diagrams or DIYs?
Thanks again

Range: I have started my truck at 300 yards line of sight. If there are ANY obstacles the range is quite a bit less. But I can start it from any room in my house with the truck in the garage. The transmitter is 433 MHz.avc8130 said:What kind of range are you getting out of the ebay model you got? I live in a townhouse and my parking lot is down the block a little, I want to make sure it will make it.
Another concern is this: If I bypass the cluch interlock, will the cruise still cancel when I push in the clutch?
Thanks for all the help!
