I'm looking into trading the prerunner in and finally getting a 'real' 4x4. I have an extra cab now but like the looks of the double cab and possibly the extra room if it's worth it. For those of you with the double cab is it worth it to get for extra space over an extracab or is it not much of a difference on the inside?

If you haul a lot of tools or timber you may appreciate having the 6 foot bed w/ the xcab. Also the xcab gives you a little more interior room to put stuff you dont want in the elements. But its no good for people.
Personally Id go w/ the dcab and get a trailer if i needed to haul something that wouldnt fit in the bed. The nice thing about the dcabs is you have a lot more room to stow junk you dont want in the bed and also fit people back there.
I have an xcab BTW. I like the 6 foot bed as I haul alot of crap when I go hunting, 3-6 deerstands, clothes boxes, 2 coolers, a few deer ;) all fit in my 6'. I wouldnt survive w/ a dcab bed. Id have to get a trailer. But I might could end up putting the clothes boxes in the back of the cab.
Bottom line Id go w/ the dcab. The only thing that I dont like is that the years i like (98-04),(im not into the new tacos(yet?might happen)) dont offer a manual in the dcab. which was only offered 01-04?

Yeah, I haul a 4 wheeler and all the stuff you mentioned too during the season, but i also haul people every now and then too, so it's a tough decision. i think I'd rather be able to haul a 4 wheeler than a 'comfortable' person. haha. I also wanted to get a manual, and like you said they don't have it in the d cabs. it'll be a toss up

yep. If dcabs came w/ a manual it be an easy one. get the manual dcab and buy a trailer for hauling. and i dont like the nissan dcabs AND 6' bed. wheelbase too long for my liking. I dont like nissans period but id still feel the same if Tacos were offered w/ that configuration.

Well take it from and go with the D-Cab....I just traded my 03 Ex Cab in on a 04 Double Cab and i couldnt be happier..THe amount of room i have now to put all my crap is great, plus there is no more laening over the drivers seat and trying to get things in the back of a ex cab, all you do is open the back door and put it in.. I wasnt sure how i would like the shorter bed, but all in all i am not missing the 6 ft bed.. THe week i got my truck i hauled a brand new 60 inch TV home with no problems and helped a buddy move a washer and dryer..GO with the D-Cab.....you wont regret it....

You can get a manual doublecab if you buy a new one. But they are pretty rare. Personally I like extracabs. If I need to haul people I take my fiances 4 runner or my fj40. And my new 05 extracab has rear doors, much easier to get the pooch in and out.

I love the double cab look. I would've gotten a double cab but I really didn't want to be the "bus driver." With my ext-cab, I can always say "sorry, but I can only fit one other person." That's the only reason I opted for the ext-cab rather than the double cab.
