We had a good time. Some good snow bashing and some even better winching. I learned even more about how to use my snatch block and we winched doug at an angle I never thought possible!

All the pics are here: http://cottora.shutterfly.com/3625 I will work on the video this week. I need more obscure music since YouTube and FaceBook keep yanking my videos for music copy-right infringement. Bastards!

Our friends the snow shoe-ers...

And our ass-hat snow machine buddy behind doug.

You drive a half inch off the packed trail and you are toast!

Nice pics Molly!

You even got pics of all our new friends :)

Hopped under my truck today, leaking what i think is gear oil out of the back of my front diff. It's all over the front drive shaft, tranny pan, steering rack and the rear of the front diff. Not sure if that happened Thursday after i drove through all the deepest snow or yesterday. The warranty should cover it, we'll find out tomorrow...lol

Awe the joys of wheeling.

welcome to the new ongoing problem you're going to be having! I've blown the pinion seal out of my front diff three times since i've had the diff in the truck.

I'm going to try just a fuel line filter on the end of my breather line (since mines located up at the master cylinder) and see if that'll help it at all.

Looks like some fun, I'm ready for summer though! Its time to wheel already! lol

Is it a cheap and easy fix? It just looks like the backside of my front diff spit gear oil out all over the place. What causes that anyways, just bad luck with the seal?

The breather can get plugged up, preventing it from releasing pressure as needed. So it takes the next weakest point, the seals.

Its not really a hard fix, but its not easy. You have to re-set pinion pre-load and such if i remember correctly.

Looking at the breathers in the engine bay, there is some gear oil around the tips. It doesn't look like it sprayed into the engine bay though.

How can you tell if the breather is bad? I haven't been through any mud or anything, but i did drive through the deepest snow on Thursday where other vehicles weren't going...lol. I wouldn't be surprised if ice had made its way up into the engine bay.

Are there any good driveline shops in my area that fix something like this for cheap? If in fact that is what failed, looks like it isn't a very expensive/difficult job. I don't have the tools, time or know how to fix it myself unfortunately though.

Diff breather is mounted on the driverside frame rail, directly behind the tire (on the inside of the frame). The only way that i know of to really check it is pull it out, and blow/suck through it and see if the bladder in it works.

Its not too hard of a job to do, very simple. Shouldnt cost you much at all.

Yeah i know where the breather is located. Do you know which one is for the front diff? Is the other one for the auto tranny?

I don't have the tools or know how to fix it myself. And i won't be driving it at all since it's ADD. I'll just have to take it in tomorrow and try and limit the time i'm without a truck. I can get by for a few days with my wifes car, but it's a pain for both of us.

I've found on ocasion, when snow bashing a little snow works it way past the seals and causes a leak. I think it has to do with that really fine snow. My T-case front output doens't like snow and when it is really cold it passes snow. The rear differential has done it once. The only fix I have found is fix the offending seal and add clean oil, drain and refill didn't work on my 4runner.

So is the oil coming out milky color?

Hard to tell on the oil, it's just splattered around the front drive shaft, steering rack, and the tranny oil pan. When i wipe it with my finger or a rag, it looks to be in good shape but it's mostly just sand and grit that comes off. I changed the gear oil last month, so it's really new and clean.

But it looks like it all came out of the rear of the front diff where the drive shaft meets it. I looked at the two breathers in my engine bay, and i don't know which one goes to what but there was some gear oil on the tubing, but it wasn't like it burst around the engine bay or anything like that.

I drove around quite a bit on Thursday in the deeper snow, and again yesterday. I only noticed it today, so i'm guessing it happened between Thursday and yesterday. I didn't drive it at all today and am just going to drive it into the service center tomorrow since i'm ADD and i know that stuff turns all the time.

Ben, yours is most likely snow related, shouldn't be much of an ongoing issue for it now that I think about it.

My front diff has been worked over good for the last 10 years its been bouncing around members of the club, its shot and needs to be rebuilt which is most of my problem.

Nate, what kind of locker are you using in the rear diff?

This was an awesome tug...

We snatch-blocked the line and pulled troy sideways onto the packed part of the trail (he spun the tires to break traction, and I pulled him from the sliders).

I didn't think it would work, but I learned something new that day.

the way he was into that tree, I'm surprised he didn't break any glass. Reminds me of when I was into the tree at the double whammy on OCG
