I work on general aviation aircraft and some planes have iridium sparkplugs that work wonders for their application. How well do they work on 3.4? I know you cant get any power gains just by changing your plugs but what about long term use? Im changing my plugs soon and i want your imput. Thanks.

I installed mine and didn't feel any change. However, I changed them to stop the pinging from my S/C.

I wouldnt think Iridium plugs would help much even when using them to correct the pinging. Using twin or dual ground plugs is what toyota calls for, and there is even a sticker on the engine that says something like that.

I used the NGK equivalent DENSO 5062 plugs and they pretty much eliminated all the ping from the S/C. Only complaint is when I put them in today with the factory gap (.031") from NGK it made the idle rough, and when changing the spark plug gap to (.045") it was a pain in the ass to bend the three ground tips on each plug. I ended up using pliers to bend them out.

That corrected the mild suttering idle from the factory gapping and at the same time curing almost all the pinging. I used the NGK BKUR7ET at 4.99/each.

However, if you are blown and have 7th Injector kit then TRD advises to use Iridium IK 20's which I have and they are expensive at @ $10 a plug but they go to @ 85K plus. I never had problems with pinging and still don't so have no idea if they are a asset or not in that regard. They are supposed to work better for my application and expect they do.

I ended up going back to only a one step colder plug, DENSO K20TR11 $3/each?, which is OEM spec and exactly one step colder than the K16TR11's.

The difference was the idle. Much smoother with these.

I use the IK22s in my supercharged trucks. I got the first set free from DENSO who wanted URD to start selling them. I had to be convinced.

Well, I put them in, and yes the difference was clearly noticeable. Right then we became a DENSO Dealer.

We now have Iridium plugs for the whole Toyota product line, including the new 4.0 engine.
