OK... my taco ( 97 2.7) has been sitting for 2 years. I have got the engine to crank but, I would like to see if the fuel pump is operating correctly. What would be the eaisiest way to check it. I have already drained all of the old gas and changed the fuel filter and oil.

You can check pressure at the rail, or you can check the flow. To check the flow you need a 5 gal bucket and a stop watch. Disconnect the fuel output line from the pump and hook a piece of hose to it. Hang the hose in the bucket. Fill the tank with some gas. Hook power to the fuel pump and time how long it takes to fill the bucket. 5 gal/(bucket fill time) = gpm or gps.

i just finished my rebuild. i would check your ground on your intake manifold to check that it is grounding right. if not you will have an incomplete circuit to the injectors and it wont spray fuel.

also check your EFI fuse on the main block its the third one up on the left side it should be a 15 amp.

on our motors the pump only runs when the engine is cranking. were the fuel lines exposed during the sit time? if so u could have a clogged injector.

last if your battery isnt charged with enough volts it wont run the EFI when starting. it will crank but wont always run the EFI.

i might also check your mass air flow sensor because if its all clogged up with crap the truck might not run let alone start.

lastly i would pull a spark plug and keep it attached to the wire and ground it to something metal w/o paint and crank the engine quick and have some one tell you if it has spark

good luck!
