how am i supposed to open it to get the door panel off to fix this?

the panels just pop off usually, if you have a manual crank window you have to pull that off and then there is screws by the inside handle and arm rest and then it all pops off and slides up. Dont be afraid to pull on it.

That'd be helpful if he could get the door open..

You can't unlock it from the inside or outside? Maybe you could pull the door handle off from the outside and fiddle with whatever you can through that hole. Something coulda popped loose, I don't know.

Locksmith?

Seems to me, getting the door panel off is the easy part. What I'd be worried about, is getting the door unlocked. It's pretty difficult to remove a door panel with the door being closed.

Just a tip for you when you put the panel back on... if you have hand crank windows, put the clip back onto the handle itself before putting it back on the spline. It's the best/easiest way I know to do it instead of trying to fight with it while the handle is on the crank.

i had this happen before to a car and we had to get to the latch itself attached to door thru the window track to grab the mechanism. we had a small safe scope with a light on the end to fish in there and see what we neede to grab or push to open the latch assembly. without the scope i am willing to bet it is going to be very difficult and a very big headache. may be better to just pay someone for this one!

Slim jim..! any locksmith should be able to pop the lock for you.

The rear window can be easily opened if it is a slider. I've had to do it before. I just pushed and pried. Had to get a thin screwdriver and a buddy, but we got it to open. Just a thought...if you have a slider.

You need a 'slime-jim'. It's a flat tool that police (or crooks) use to slide down the window pocket and grabs the lever. Sounds like your lock knob has lost the linkage (about a 1/16 inch rod)that connects to this lever. Once open, you can remove the panel and re-connect the rod.

i believe its locked only on the driver door. he can get in from the passengers side. a slim jim most likely isnt going to do anything because the linkage is jammed or broke off of the latch mechanism.there is probably 2 rods, one from the lock cyl tailpiece and one from the interior lock button. it not ususally a slim jim option when both can not be used to unlock the door.

OK, I thought the interior lock piece is broken, but the slim-jim would catch the bar to actually unlock the door.

I'd dry this too - take the outside door handle off (2 nuts hold it on in the inside) - there is a small tab of metal that actuates the mechanism... Lift up the door handle (out of the truck) and watch to see if the little bell-crank mechanism works okay... You may need to re-bend the tab on the metal handle so that when you lift the handle the metal tab engages the bell-crank and works the rod...

This might not be it but since it happened to me when the door froze up last year on my 1k mile new truck (from my stupidity of washing the car before a 10 degree night) something tells me that if something gets dirty or rusty in the mechanism you can bend the tab out and the handle won't catch...
