I've searched all over the web for any info but can't find anything. Maybe I'm not describing it right. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Problem is every time the running or park lights get turned on the top/3rd brake light lights up also. It's a 01 sport if that makes a difference. My tacoma doesn't do it. Idk why the 4runner is doing it. Thanks for the help.

You've got a short in between the tail lamp and stop lamp circuit. They obviously share a few wire harnesses and junction connectors so it's probably in there.

I would bet the short is in BR1 Back Door No.1 Wire and Floor No.2 Wire (Left Rear Side of Roof), in junction connector J14, or in Connector IE2 for the Cowl Wire and Floor No.2 Wire (Left Kick Panel) .

J14 is located behind the rear quarter panel trim above the driver wheel well. I can't tell how pins it has or what it looks like but if you chase the stop light wires back to far enough you'll find it.

PM me you email and I'll send you the diagrams and parts locations. The PDFs are too large to attach here

I'm pretty sure this is not Toyota's handy work... I think I'll have to blame this on the previous owner whoever that was... FYI I just got the 4 runner the Friday before Christmas. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the only two wires that are supose to be there are the top green and white wires. I bet the other gray cable is a bonus mystery cable that I get to chase down...

If someone can correct or confirm that I would greatly appreciate it.
