I have a 91' 4runner with the 1.5" lift springs in the rear and was thinking about installing the ball joint spacers on TRDparts4U.com. I was thinking that i would relax the torsion bars all the way after installing the spacers. so what are the pro's and con's of the spacers?

Increased droop travel. Both a pro and a con. Obviously the greater travel is good, but it can be enough to bind the CV and have problems. Generally, there seems to be accelerated wear on steering components with them.

Good post!...I was think the same things,..I have seen them on ebay for $110 bucks, but I work in a machine and fab shop so I know me and my boss can make a set for my truck for nothing with no problem at all,...I was just wonder the pros and cons of it also,....

Glad to hear all the good news about them, I think I will try to make a set now,...What did you guys use in the rear and for shocks?....Sorry I don't me to high jack this post,..Thanks guys,

If it were me, I'd just buy a set ( I know this because I did...lol). For the $$ it's almost not worth the time making them yourself. As far as shocks, I just went with stock shocks front and rear, but if I had it to do over, I'd relocate the lower shock mounts at the rear to the axle housing and do a ubolt flip. To lift the rear of my truck (the 87), I went with HD extended shackles...

Hope that helps!

If I were using these 1.5" bj spacers would a 0-2" of lift shock work?..I seen some skyjacker ones on ebay for about $135, and how much longer were you shackles?

Damn even though that link says a 2-3" longer shackel?...or do you have more of a lift?....And I didn't see Skyjacker on that list..are they a bad brand and should I go with rancho or procomp or will thoughs ebay skyjackers work?....Thanks alot man,

Well thanx for all the input guys. Thats pretty much what i thought. so just some excess wear on some parts, but i can live with that.

Unfortunately here's the other side of the coin, the down side of ball joint spacers. Ball joint spacers are a moment arm (a pry bar) that puts excess stress on the upper control arms. In time, you would start detecting hair line cracks all originating around the four bolt holes in the upper control arm. Will this ever happen to you? Who knows, there were enough incidences back in the 1970's to make us take our BJS's off the market.
