I don't have a scan gauge yet but it's on the to-do list. I have yet to read about anyone setting their to get power with the key.... Right now i have a VHF, CB, and Sirius radio. VHF and CB i just turn off usually when i don't feel like listening to chatter but my sirius just gets power with the key.... Is there any reason not to set up my scan gauge to do the same when i get it?

The Scan Guage draws its power (and info) from the OBD II port. Therefore it takes turning on the engine, or having the key in the ignition position, for it to work.
Well......

If it's tied to the key to get power then i would venture to guess the ODB2 port would get power at the same time as the scan gauge... ie... when the key is in the 'on' position

Yeah, I thought that is what I was saying. On (ignition) not the Accessory position.
Maybe we are just not understanding each other... I was talking about wiring it to the acc position... but i know i won't get readings with the key in the acc position because the rest of the truck won't have power. I am just looking to not have to physically unplug it when i park my truck for a time.

As anything that has power with the accessory position also has power with the ignition in the on position it shouldn't be a problem.

My original question was.. would it be a problem because i havn't seen anyone talking about it..... to which the expected response would have been "no problem" or "you can't do it because......."

By simply restating what i said to begin with you had me alllll farked up.

You don't wire it to anything... it has a cable that plugs into one of two ports on the scangauge (one on back, the other on the side) and the other end plugs into the OBD connector. There is power to the unit at all times, and you can turn it on and go thru menu's, etc with the vehicle off, but in normal use, it turns itself on when the vehicle is started, and turns itself off shortly after you turn the vehicle off.
I got you.... i didn't realize it is powered through the ODB port itself... as i don't have one and havn't had to hook one up. I was unaware that there was power at the ODB port when the key was off and assumed that the power was supplied external and the port was for data only.

Thank You Tacomi for being clear in your statement......
