Don't say such things.
Oh I forgot about tornados, hurricanes, sink holes and earthquakes LOL. But I'm sounding like an insurance salesman aren't I.

They dropped the ball...

3/28 = Read about recall at toyotanation.com.

4/1 = Stopped by Charlies Toyota in Augusta, Maine and requested
inspection. Bob the service manager told me to call Toyota Customer
Service to start the ball rolling.

4/4 = Called Toyota CS and was told to just contact a dealer to schedule
an inspection. Called Bob back and he appologized "this is all new to
us" he said.

4/18 = Failed frame inspection was told ISG would contact me in 72 hours,
was offered a rental but he was not sure if "they" have one right now
and the only cost would be the state tax, no rental trucks. I need a
truck so I keep my truck, did not sign any waiver.

4/25 = No contact from anyone, so I call Toyota CS, they tell me it will be
10-15 days before ISG calls. They say they have no idea why the
dealer told me 72 hours.

5/15 = No contact from anyone, so I call ISG in the evening and they do not
have any record of me in the system. They tell me the dealer did not
submit it. I, of course, am pissed at this point.

5/16 = Call Charlies Toyota at 7:30 am talk to Paul in Service and he tells me
Bob is off untill Monday. He looks me up and says I'm in the
system. I let him know I spoke with ISG and I am not in the system
and he says well Bob must have put you in last night and ISG system
must not have updated until midnight. I let him know I have no
confidence in that anwser and ask him if he could make some calls to
get the ball back in play. He agrees to look into it and call me back.

At 9:00 am I called Paul back and he tells me my claim was put in the
system wrong and Bob, who is out until Monday, is the only one that
can submit the information.

At this point I am not having a great feeling about this whole experience. Needless to say starting on Monday someone, starting with the Bob the service manager at the dealer and then ISG, will be getting a call every couple of days to see how my claim is progressing. It is not in my nature to be the squeeky wheel but in this case I guess I have to be.

It is great to read about the folks that have been treated like a King, these guys will have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to make me feel like one.

Not sure if I want another Toyota... maybe I have had my quota already, certainly will not buy one from this dealer.

Your truck had 208K miles on it and yet you still got 13.4 for it. How come your high mileage didn't hurt your offer? I thought KBB factored in mileage for your value.
Anyone here know if your mileage makes a big difference on your KBB value? Reason I ask is KBB's values are very different from the website and their book.

I'm glad I thought to remove my plates or they probably would have charged me for that.

(This is Jaffarian Toyota in Haverhill, MA BTW)
Not surprised to hear this after I tried buying parts off them a few times.

5/12/08 = ISG didn't have my Reg. from the Dealer (DEE DEE DEE dealers)
.
My dealer also dropped the ball on this one.

Although I have had some bad dealer experiences shopping for a new truck I don't blame Toyota Corp for that. I think Toyota has done good by all of us with this frame issue. No matter which brand you buy you'll always find some bad apples.

I think total it took me about a 3-4 weeks to get my check. Went into the dealer to get the check on Monday. Then they tried to located a new Tundra for me and wanted to charge me MSRP less the $3250 rebate. I went to another dealer and they gave it to me for another $5000 less than the first dealer.

The dealer that failed my truck was great for service though. They used excessive force to punch a hole in my frame. It could have passed pretty easy as I was only able to dent it.

I had the same issue with ISG not getting the Reg. I am pretty sure that its a problem on their end. I know my dealer took a copy of my reg and faxed it into them. I saw him but some reason ISG didn't get it. Something seems fishy.

Yeah but when my dealer says I did fail the inspection. "But your still safe to drive, and won't need a rental car". What can I do? I just hope I don't total the truck. Or if I did maybe I don't report it to my insurance company, and tow it to the dealer.
This is BS on their account...
When my dealer told me that my truck failed their inspection (I was in for an oil change not an inspection) that I COULD NOT drive the truck off their lot. It had a couple small holes. They offered any vehicle on the lot as a loaner till all was settled in the buy back.

how do I tell between surface and rust that will fail me?
Check the PDFs in the in the first page of this thread. It gives the details. You should be able to put a hole in the frame using light to medium force using a 12-16oz hammer. For the most part if there is no perforation it doesn't fail.

The service manager at the dealer I took mine to had the tech use a pointed pry bar to punch a hole though a soft spot to make it fail.

The more people that say this the more fishy it smells. The service manager that failed my truck is a decent guy and I believe him when he said ISG NEVER contacted him saying they never received a copy. I think ISG was stalling for some reason.

That's a tough spot, I guess drive very safely, and pray. Also pray it doesn't get stolen or catch fire.
Goat you're every bit the pessimist that I am. And I just loaded my truck with it's last dump run, come Monday I'll bring her in and get the free rental.

My fear of totally the truck is tempered by the thought of getting tapped by someone driving a Lexus. Now that could be interesting.

Updates- got my offer, paid off my loan, I'll return the signed offer next week when my title arrives. I'm looking at a 2000 RAV4 on Tuesday- any thoughts on that vehicle?

As a fellow Mainer there is one thing I would be concerned with. Some or all RAV4's have a 4x4 system that kicks out after 25 MPH. I rented a new one in February and was pissed when I found this out. Of course we hit a snowstorm and wish we had rented a Outback or something.

Well guys I picked up my new truck today and i am excited to say that it only took toyota from March 18th to May 14th to get me my check and after my truck got paid off they cut me a check for $8,061.25 and I used $8,000. as the down payment on my 2001 Toyota Tundra TRD and obviously the $61.00 went straight into the tank shortly thereafter. But I can't complain because in 42 months I will own it. So with the interest figured in I am paying just over $13,600.00 including my down payment.

Wanted a bigger truck heh? Nothing wrong with Silver BTW. I'm getting a new Tacoma but was tempted with the Tunda's that they are practically giving away because they can't sell as many of them. You'll have to let us know how it is off road.:xbeer1:

I am starting to look forward to the new 08 Tacoma even if it gets a little less MPG. I just started reading some reviews of the new ones and they all seem to complain about low seating position with your legs sticking straight out, hope thats not the case.

I am copying this from someone I know on another board.

Ok...so i work at A-Reliable, we were bought out last year by LKQ which is world wide and well known in the automotive market. We were contacted by Toyota about a week ago and they are paying us 49.9 million dollars to do this for them, they are buying us all sorts of new equipment and supplies to get them this done as soon as possible and as fast and quietly as possible. I just had to share!

Toyota has chosen our company to do the procedures, Toyota has recalled every Tacoma produced from 1995 til present date, they are buying back the trucks from dealers, private owners, auto rebuilders, etc and destroying all of them. They are trying to keep this as quiet as possible, we will be receiving over 125,000 of these truck which will be spread over the entire US to all of the other LKQ yards and our included, we started getting a few in today, there are expected to be about 10,000 coming to our yard and we have 24 hours of the drop of date, to photograph them, drain them, crush them and photograph them again.

They are all being recalled, 4x2's 4x4's, extended cabs, regular cabs, all engine sizes, etc...the frame are rusting out completely on all of them, you can contact you local dealer about having
Toyota buy your truck back for what we have heard is a very decent fair market value for helping in getting them off the road.

Our yard manager picked the first one up to place it in the crusher and it buckled under its own weight...to show you guys who own these or know people still driving them what happens to them and why they are recalling them:
