Engine revs while idling in 22RE...

Posting this for a friend.

He has a 1990 Toy truck with the 22RE. When at idle, the engine doesn't idle smooth, it revs up and down, in pulses.

I had the same thing happen to my 1990, but it had a 3.0. Turned out mine was the "pulsation damper." I cannot figure out if his engine has that part. Mine would run fine when your foot was on the gas, but rev up and down when you came to a stop. Sounded like it was about to die, then it would rev up again.

He took it to some shop, and they replaced his fuel lines, claiming there was a leak, and air was getting in the lines...Didn't fix it.

They then told him he needed a MAF sensor...Didn't fix it.

I am still thinking it is something to do with the fuel injection.

Input?

If id does it only when your foot is on the brake, you will need to adjust your idle down to around 750 rpms. when your foot depresses the brake pedal with a high rpm, the ECM will try to lower the rpms, thus causing the idle to pulsate up and down.

this is the only time I encountered that situation.

where was that pulsation damper you said fixed your 3.0. My old 94 is doing the same thing and I have changed and checked everything I can think of. I'm just not sure what your talking about or where its at. Please let me know. would be of great help. I'll keep check on this thread. Thanks
