steps and ladders for lifted truck

I'm considering buying a tacoma with about a 10 Inch lift

It has 31 inches from ground to where you would step into the passanger and driver doors and 40 inches to bottom of the tailgate when open

My wife is short and is worrying about difficulty getting into the truck

Are there steps for the doors that won't get in the way of going over rocks
(spring loaded for example) and some sort of ladder or steps that will make it easier to step onto the tailgate (to get into my camper)

What products would you recommend? Which are priced reasonably?

Obviously something that will create more obstacles when going over rocks etc would defeat the purpose of getting a lifted truck and wouldn't be suitable.

Thanks for any help

a couple of assumptions...truck is SAS and you have way the hell too much lift.

with sq-tube sliders you can fab up a removable step that fits over the outside tube...get in the truck, than pull off the step and throw it in the back.

another idea I saw one Rubicon trip was a chain/bar setup that was bolted to the slider. Chain was heavy duty, 3/8" type. His setup worked very well and didn't hang up on anything.

Someone already mentioned the electric step. A guy I fish wish has one on his lifted superduty. Looked pretty cool, open the door it drops down, door closes sucks back up under the door. Couldn't tell you what they run or how hard they are to install.

Here's what I did, helps load by ass in the truck and is functional to boot...

Started out with some All Pro Sliders...

And made the drivers side slider retractable (slider half way down in this pic)...

Works off 2 hydraulic rams, here is the front ram...

And here's the rear ram and the valve that controls the slider up/down...

Of coarse this is entirely obtrusive inside the cab but in my case I was able to attach the majority of it to the internal cage. It also requires hydraulics to make it functional, which with the full hydro steering was not a problem for me. I certainly don't suggest putting this in a daily driver...but since the topic popped up, I decided to post my little contraption. :D

Neat little invention you got there!

Those rams look pretty burly... how much force can you exert with those things... can they work as a 'jack'? I see being able to lift the truck up (slider already over a boulder, etc), and have some folks toss some rocks under the tires, then let the truck back down and you're on your way!

oh god please let this thread be duplicated outside n00b. fml.

i think that toyminator's solution, as a moving step rather than moving the entire slider, would do the job for what you need and it would be less fabrication work than doing the entire slider. you could use a hydro jack from radflo or something similar, i think king makes one too, then you could lower the step and the person could just get on the step and operate the jack and raise themselves up.

you could do it with a trailer jack & hand crank too. even a pinned piece of box tube with holes would work, but it couldn't be operated with one hand and it'll be dirtier than a removable hand crank or a jack handle.

that is all the seriousness i got...i am withholding a veritable cornucopia of critical unformation.

Nic had that goofy ass step on her rig while she was preggers. But she didn't wheel with it obviously.

And I'm not gonna lie, I haul myself up into Tipy even with a skirt on. Your wife can do it too :D

Shannon, I never got to see your slider RAM fix. That's cool!
